If you'd like to learn more about how microfinance providers can help their clients reduce vulnerability and build resiliency, we are hosting a webinar (open to the public) on February 27th to look at this very question. Guest presenters are Luisa Brunori, professor of psychology at the University of Bologna in Italy, and Chandra Shekhar ("CS") Gosh, founder and managing director of Bandhan, a microfinance institution, in India.
Luisa will talk about how "If you are afraid to do something new [iike join a microfinance group], suppose you ask a friend to come with you...and both of you are afraid, you ask a third one. And so when you have a good enough group, then you have courage" to participate.
CS will talk about how Bandhan is creating the most advantageous circumstances for their clients to succeed.
Hope you will join us!

Larry,
Thank your subtle and accurate reportage. I just want to emphasize, as I write in the post you link to, that I see no necessary dichotomy between mobile money and graduation programs. Rather, I noticed a slight difference in tone in the report's discussion of these two things, and argued that if anything I would bias the other way. I agree with Alexia, who said, as you wrote, "There is no reason that we cannot not use both methods together to accomplish our goals."
