Dear Mary and CFI, thank you for your attention to the issue of integrating PWD into MF services. As Leah Maxson wrote I think that steps forward can be quite simple; MFIs and PWD need to come together.
As problems of access of PWD are in countries with massive poverty often exacerbated by cultural fear and prejudices, one simple step could be regular info to and discussions with staff on certain disabilities, whether they are contagious or not and how to overcome prejudices, also in regard of other clients. Another important step could be regular information initiatives towards the general public, if possible supported by local public authorities. And yet another, as mentioned, approaching specific PWD for recruitment or as clients into MFIs.

Thank you, Leah, for your continued interest in this topic. I agree with you, promoting inclusion requires that both PWDs and financial service providers work on the issue of inclusion. We welcome your ideas regarding what PWDs and financial service providers might do together or separately.

I think that the point you mention is key DPOs and MFIs need to find a way to come together, not all the burden should be left on MFIs to advance this strategy. From my experience, MFIs have very little exposure to Disabled Persons Issues since they are trying to carry out their own agendas.

This article in CGAP MIcrofinance Blog comes to mind: http://microfinance.cgap.org/2011/04/15/how-many-%E2%80%9Cplus-es%E2%80%9D-can-we-add-to-%E2%80%9Cmicrofinance-%E2%80%9D/
